Tasmania - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Tasmania was once inhabited only by an indigenous population, the Tasmanian Aborigines, and evidence indicates their presence in the territory, later to become an island, at least 35,000 years ago (rising sea levels cut Tasmania off from mainland Australia about 10,000 years ago).
Tasmania is a rugged island of temperate climate, and was considered so similar in some ways to pre-industrial England that it was referred to by some English colonists as 'a Southern England'.

new town - Hutchinson encyclopedia article about new town
New towns such as Milton Keynes and Stevenage were built after World War II to accommodate the overspill from cities and large towns, notably London, at a time when the population was rapidly expanding and inner-city centres had either decayed or been destroyed.
New towns are characterized by a regular street pattern and the presence of a number of self-contained neighbourhood units, consisting of houses, shops, and other local services.
In order to stimulate employment in depressed areas, 14 original new towns were planned between 1946 and 1950, with populations of 25–60,000, among them Cwmbran (Wales) and Peterlee (Scotland), and eight near London to relieve congestion there.

Born in the northern English town of Nelson, Palmer moved with his family to Australia when aged 5, and made his South Adelaide debut in April 1969, shortly before his 18th birthday, when he came off the bench in the 2nd term to register a goal with his first kick in League football.
Parsons also represented Tasmania at the Adelaide carnival three years later, and it was there, in recognition of his alacrity, courage and verve, that the nickname of 'The Mighty Atom' was first conferred upon him.
However, he was forced by family reasons to return home to Tasmania in 1965, thereby depriving the Saints of a potential star, whilst simultaneously giving Tasmanian football fans the rare opportunity of seeing one of the finest footballers in the country playing out his career in their own backyard.
