This year's recipients, selected by the WHL board of governors, also include former New Westminster Bruins head coach Ernie McLean, the late Paddy Ginnell, a former head coach of the Flin Flon Bombers, and former Regina Pats owner Del Wilson.
Hicke, who played 729 games in the NHL with the Montreal Canadiens, New York Rangers, Oakland/California Seals and the Pittsburgh Penguins before retiring in 1973, is also a former owner of the Regina Pats.
McLean coached 16 seasons in the WHL with the Estevan Bruins and New Westminster Bruins, leading New Westminster to four consecutive WHL championships from 1974-75 to 1977-78 and two Memorial Cup titles in 1977 and 1978.

A Short History of New Westminster The first incorporated municipality in Western Canada, New Westminster was founded by the Royal Engineers in 1859 and served as the first capital of the united colony of British Columbia.
When Victoria became the provincial capital in 1868, New Westminster emerged as an institutional centre and supply point for the construction of the transcontinental railway.
Over the years, New Westminster has changed in role and importance, but the imprints of those early years have left a sense of pride and honour among the 48,000 people who reside and work in New Westminster.

In game three between New Westminster and Hamilton the Fincups would score seven power play goals en route to an 8-4 win.
 The Bruins and Remparts would meet in the semifinal with the winner of the sudden death game advancing to take on Hamilton in the final.
Mark Lofthouse scored four goals as New Westminster posted a 10-3 win to move to the final game.

The 4th choice, 66th overall selection of the Detroit Red Wings in the 1979 NHL Entry Draft, Ogrodnick is a graduate of the British Columbia Junior Hockey League and the of the Western Canadian Junior Hockey League.
The Ottawa, Ontario native spent two and half seasons with the WCJHL's New Westminster Bruins and is a two time Memorial Cup champion (1977, 1978) while sharing WCJHL Rookie of the Year honors in 1978 and was a member of Canada's 1979 World Junior Championship team.
Following a five-year stay in New York with the Rangers, Ogrodnick was released by the team upon the conclusion of the 1991-92 season only to sign as a free agent with Detroit during the off-season.

 CHL Memorial Cup 2005
 In 1975 the Memorial Cup Tournament was played in Kitchener with the Sherbrooke Castors, the New Westminster Bruins and the Toronto Marlboros meeting to compete for major junior "A" hockey supremacy in Canada.
 The New Westminster Bruins were the former Estevan Bruins, an original franchise of the Western Canadian Hockey League in 1966-67, and they qualified for the Memorial Cup by winning a seven game series against the Saskatoon Blades.
In the second game of the tournament New Westminster scored five unanswered goals to defeat Sherbrooke 7-5 and the Bruins advanced to the final with a 6-2 win over Toronto in game three.

 Oldtimers' Hockey Challenge - Players - Larry Melnyk
Chosen 78th overall by the Boston Bruins in 1979, Melnyk split the 1980-81 season between the NHL and the AHL's Springfield Indians.
He was strictly a role player for the star-studded club but did see action in twelve playoff games when they won the Stanley cup in 1985.
The New York Rangers acquired Melnyk in December 1985 to add more grit to their blueline.

The Vancouver Griffins play all their home games at historic Queens Park Arena in New Westminster, BC.
