The Mets record in 2003 (66-95) was among the worst in baseball, and Piazza had missed two-thirds of the season with a torn groin muscle.

In March 2006, the Mets received preliminary approval for $632.1 million in bonds.

NEW YORK — Charles Seaver, the father of New York Mets Hall of Fame pitcher Tom Seaver and a top amateur golfer in the 1930s, died Monday at 93.
He died in Pebble Beach, Calif., after a short illness, the Mets said.
He always came to as many games as possible, and it was so important to me that he was there when I was inducted into the Hall of Fame (in 1992).
