  New York News
New York's extremely rapid commercial growth may be partly attributed to Governor De Witt Clinton, who pushed through the construction of the Erie Canal (Buffalo to Albany), which was opened in 1825.
New York now became a royal colony, and the new king, who at heart despised popular government, refused to sign the Charter of Liberties, abolished the New York assembly, and sent Andros to govern the colony as consolidated with New England and New Jersey.
News of the accession of William and Mary and of the imprisonment of Andros at Boston created a great excitement in New York; and the militia, led by Jacob Leisler, a German merchant, took possession of the government.

The New York Observer is a weekly newspaper first published in New York City on September 22, 1987 by Arthur L. Carter, a very successful former investment banker with publishing interests.
It covers the rich and powerful of New York with an unusual depth of coverage although has been criticized for its narrow focus on the Upper East Side of Manhattan and its liberal political perspective.
The New York Observer asserts to advertisers that it delivers Manhattan’s most affluent, educated and influential consumers, with the average net worth of its readership exceeding $1.7 million and 96% of readers being college graduates.

News Corp., of course, has long contended that the old rules on media ownership are outmoded in today’s media universe, with its proliferation of news options on television, radio and the Internet.

And to news staffers and viewers numbed by Chandra and O.J. and Princess Diana, it was a grave reminder of the broader obligations of network news outfits.
Fox News jefe Roger Ailes, in fact, was seen as a prescient genius for assembling a scrappy, sharp-edged (and relatively inexpensive) lineup of reporters and pundits that could deliver ratings even during the flattest news cycles.
As a whole, network news viewership has declined precipitously over the past decade; faced with smaller audiences and shrinking revenues, network news divisions have increasingly turned to titillating or flat, service-oriented stories to cling to their remaining viewers.

But the new New York that is taking shape—with its ambitious towers, its cities within a city like the far West Side, Ground Zero and the Atlantic Yards—belongs to these two.
But the projects taken on by the two architects also reflect the changing cultural landscape of New York, where relatively new museums and theaters have benefited from the rezoning for cultural districts that have drawn renowned architects—and many New Yorkers—away from Manhattan and into the boroughs.
Perhaps the best illustration of the different interests, ambitions and temperaments of the two architects is their convergence in the 2000 competition to build the New York Times Building, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2007.

This report presents the results of an indirect assessment of the political personality of New York mayor Rudolph W. (Rudy) Giuliani, undeclared Republican candidate for the U.S. Senate in the election of 2000, from the conceptual perspective of Theodore Millon.
But, given the mayor's disproportionate emotional response to a seemingly innocuous stimulus, psychologically minded observers – particularly those with a psychoanalytic bent – would be inclined to scratch a little deeper.
Answering the question of of whether Giuliani will implode or rise to the occasion by adapting to the demands of his political reality – the question of whether the leopard can change his spots – requires an examination of the self-perpetuating processes of the dominant.
