The Air Training Corps or ATC is one of the three corps in the New Zealand Cadet Forces, the other two being the New Zealand Cadet Corps and Sea Cadet Corps.
Cadets wear their achievements on a shoulder brassard.
Officers are commissioned into the New Zealand Cadet Forces, with the post-nominal letters NZCF, at the rank of Pilot Officer, and can be promoted to Flying Officer, and Flight Lieutenant after completing the necessary training and service.

The New Zealand Cadet Forces is one of the oldest military organisations in New Zealand and has been in existence for over one hundred years.
Cadet training therefore became compulsory and a number of Cadet Battalions and Territorial Regiments were raised to cater for youths who had left school before they had completed their training in the Cadet Corps.
During the early seventies the number of Cadet Corps units had shrunk drastically due to factors surrounding the Vietnam war and the reduction of support by the Army for school cadet units.

The three Services are all independently registered with the New Zealand Qualifications Authority as Government Training Establishments, and a number of the NZDF training establishments are accredited to deliver and assess against unit standards on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF).
