New Zealand is a democratic country in which the members of parliament (MPs) are chosen in free and fair elections.
Labour began the process whereby redress was made for the wrongs of the past, the particular needs of Maori were addressed, and the unique qualities of Maori culture could be both recognised and fostered.
In May 1990 the current Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand was formed from a merger of Values and the new Green groups, and contested the 1990 general election six months later, winning 7% of the total vote although it was not able to stand candidates in all electorates.

The New Zealand National Party currently forms the second-largest (in terms of seats) political party in the New Zealand Parliament, and thus functions as the core of the Opposition.
The party formed as the result of a merger between the United Party (known as the Liberal Party until 1927) and the Reform Party.
The new coalition, however, lost heavily in 1935 to the Labour Party, the rise of which had originally prompted the alliance.

It appears the Green Party are for making capital (votes) out of this disaster, in the guise of appearing to now be the peak oil party along with their buddies the Labour Party, who are still saying 2037 for peak.
Now we have the co-leader of the Labour left wing admitting we are at or near peak oil (this after 4 years of me asking these questions).
