The Saga of New Zealand Steel contd
In keeping with the newness of the process and the size of the New Zealand market, the Glenbrook plant was designed initially to produce only 135,000 tonnes of iron and steel a year.
Despite considerable efforts by the DSIR and the New Zealand Steel Company, degradation of the green pellets could not he prevented and it was realised that the ore feed would have to take some other form.
Nevertheless, the New Zealand Steel board was persuaded by its technologists to proceed with a three-day trial in May 1972.

New Zealand’s well-established dairy industry already made extensive use of stainless steel tanks.
Winemakers use refrigerated steel fermentation tanks to control the fermentation of white wines at a temperature of around 54º to 59º F. This slows the fermentation process and retains more of the fragile aromas and flavors of the grapes.
For wines that benefit from oak aging, New Zealand winemakers tend to favor small 60 gallon barrels that are made of French, German, or American oak.

BLUESCOPE Steel is set to expand its New Zealand steel output despite having splashed out around $320 million to ensure it had a say in the Australian steel industry's rationalisation plans.
This would be bad news for BlueScope as it would be left with a large stake in a long products company, a hefty loss on that investment and none of the assets it covets.
Where BlueScope has its own iron ore supplies in New Zealand, the company is close to committing $NZ300 million ($A250 million) to expand its Glenbrook steelworks from 625,000 tonnes to 805,000 tonnes, according to NZ research company Covec Ltd.
