		New Zealand was initially administered as a part of the colony of New South Wales, and it became a separate colony in November 1840.
		New Zealand was involved in a Constitutional Convention in March 1891 in Sydney, New South Wales, along with the Australian colonies.
		New Zealand director Peter Jackson shot the epic The Lord of the Rings film trilogy in various locations around the country, taking advantage of the spectacular and relatively unspoiled landscapes, and Mount Taranaki was used as a stand-in for Mount Fuji in The Last Samurai.

		By the end of the 1870’s the women’s suffrage movement was well-established in New Zealand, drawing attention from overseas suffragists, notably the liberal philosopher John Stuart Mill, a strong supporter of the British suffrage movement.
		New Zealand’s victory would predate that of her larger allies by decades: British women were not granted suffrage until 1918 and American women were not granted it across the whole country until 1920.
		Therefore all Maori men over the age of 21 actually got the vote in New Zealand some ten years before the franchise was extended to all 'white' men over that age, with the qualification that Maori were able to vote only for their own members of parliament.

	HMS Conway
		A second officer of the Indrabarah (Tyser Line) he performed two rescues when the vessel went aground on the Rangitikei coast (NZ) in 1913, and as a result was decorated by King George V at Buckingham Palace, and also received rewards from the Royal Humane Society and the Liverpool Shipwreck and Humane Society.
		Early medals were generally awarded for military valour, but after the establishment of the Congressional Medal of Honor in 1865, the award was extended to all manner of persons recognised as worthy.
		He was a New Chum in 1906 and left in 1908.
