Kate Quinn, an administrator for the Newbury Street League, said it is important for the police and community to work together.

This week it was the turn of the district’s communities to mark the occasion, blending sombre reflection and jubilant fanfare with services of commemoration, wartime exhibitions, parades, tea dances and 1940s street parties.
Tilehurst Royal British Legion in Downing Road put on a week’s worth of tea dances, community open days, a 1940s disco and a Glen Miller tribute concert, with festivities culminating in a remembrance service at the Triangle war memorial on Sunday where 150 crosses in honour of fallen comrades were laid.
Residents of The Marlowes and Priory Road went to town with flags, bunting and wartime costume, while the show piece of Priory Road was the RAF Spitfire fly past at 3pm on Sunday.
