The Sturt Highway is the main highway route between Sydney and Adelaide.
The Sturt Highway commences at its junction with the Hume Highway near Gundagai south west of Sydney.
The Sturt Highway is named after Charles Sturt, who explored south western New South Wales, the Murrumbidgee and Murray rivers and also parts of the deserts of central Australia in the 1820s and 1830s.

Mr Carter said one of the most significant changes to the Newell Highway since NRMA's last survey was the extension of 110 kilometres/hr speed zones to the southern section, up from 100 km/hr.

The regional capital for the west of the state, it supports many agricultural industries and is located at a vital crossroads where the Melbourne–Brisbane Newell Highway meets the Mitchell Highway and routes west to Bourke or Broken Hill.
