Newfoundland's long-standing Labrador boundary dispute with Canada was resolved to the satisfaction of Newfoundland and Canada (but not Quebec, the province that bordered Labrador) with the ruling, on April 1, 1927 by the Imperial Privy Council.
The Protestants of Newfoundland outnumbered the Catholics at a ratio of 2:1.

Newfoundland received a colonial assembly in 1832, which was and still is referred to as the House of Assembly, after a fight led by reformers William Carson, Patrick Morris and John Kent.
Its report, released in 1933, assessed Newfoundland's political culture as intrinsically corrupt and its economic prospects bleak, and advocated the abolition of responsible government on the island, to be replaced by a Commission of the British Government.

Premier John Hamm and Premier Roger Grimes agreed Wednesday to join forces in their efforts to gain a fair share of the royalty revenues from offshore oil and gas by preparing a joint submission for the federal government.
The premiers agreed that an improved royalty deal would enable the provinces to capitalize more fully on their opportunities in the resource sector, helping to further expand their economies and reduce the economic and fiscal disparities that exist between their provinces and the rest of Canada.
Premier Hamm said the two provinces will also work together on assessing the economic impact of this issue on the Atlantic region, which should help the provinces argue their case for action.

The sequel to that show was the first Accord, and the last few years of debate on the arangement designed to compliment and give effect to the words and spirit of that original accord.
Successive Newfoundland and Labrador premiers have argued that our government should have final say over our fisheries resources or at the very least have joint management with Ottawa.
But the sad part is that the key policy, terms of union/constitutional-related, and legislative decisions that needed to be made to correct much of the grief caused by some of the eocnomic problems I have mentioned would actually have cost ottawa very little in revenue.
