 | | William DeWees was born in Pennsylvania, prior tot he middle of the eighteenth century, as is evident from the fact that about 1770 he was united in marriage to Miss Elizabeth Dehart. |
 | | William DeWees, Jr., grandfather of the subject, was born in Amity township, Berks county, Pennsylvania, on the 9th of December, 1779, and his death occurred in Osnaburg, Stark county, Ohio, on the 8th of March, 1862, at the venerable age of eighty-two years. |
 | | From Womelsdorf he removed to a point near Newmanstown, Lebanon county, where he erected a shop and became associated with his father in chair-making, last-making and general wood-turning, in the meanwhile continuing to devote much attention to his sign-painting, in which line his services ere in almost constant requisition. |
