		Covering 237 acres of woodland and water by the picturesque village of Newmillerdam, the Park was once part of an area known by the Norse name of Thurstonhaugh.
		The name changed when it was part of the medieval 'Chevet' estate after a new corn mill was built in the village in 1285 and the area became known as New Myllne on Dam.
		Situated on the lake at Newmillerdam this boathouse has recently been renovated.

		Newmillerdam Country Park is well worth a visit if you like walking, fishing, bird watching or simply feeding the ducks.
		There is a pleasant (approximately two mile) walk around the dam, which is suitable for push chairs or wheelchairs.
		Coarse fishing is available (not between 1st March and 30th June) by possession of the 'Wakefield book' which costs around £14 per annum, and gives access to many other waters as well.

		FOR THE FIRST time this year, it's warm enough to eat outdoors at lunchtime.
		The sunny weather is all the excuse we need to divert from some calls in town to take a stroll around Newmillerdam Country Park Lake, Wakefield.
		I'm surprised how popular it is, considering it's a weekday afternoon, but if you've got the chance it's a shame not to get out on a day like this at this time of year.
