Newport Rugby Club was established in 1963 and has participated in the NSW Suburban Rugby competition since that time.
The club has in excess of 250 registered players and officials, and we pride ourselves in the fact that we are one of the most successful clubs in the NSW Suburban competition.
The Newport Rugby Club seeks to actively participate in the improvement of the local community, by providing a strong football club for the local youth of the Northern Beaches.

Newport RFC are now one of 16 semi-professional teams playing in the Welsh Premiership League and are one of the clubs that feed the Gwent regional side Newport Gwent Dragons and in fact they have a number of players who have Development contracts with the regional side.
Newport Rugby Club has had many successful seasons but when one looks at what this club has achieved and contributed both to the game in Wales and world-wide they will see that it can rightfully claim to be one of the greatest rugby clubs in the world.
Newport had phenomenal success on the field and in the 10 years that the South Wales Challenge Cup was run in the 1870's and 1880's Newport won it 5 times and were runners up on 2 occasions.

Langholm Rugby Football Club formed, reputed to be the oldest Rugby Club in the Borders of Scotland.
The Butts ground was lost in 1911 to a Northern Union club which did not survive the First World War, and the Coventry rugby club eventually moved to a new ground at Coundon in 1921.
The Calcutta football club which had been started by former students of rugby school 4 years earlier had been wound up and the remaining rupees in the club's funds were melted down to be re-worked into the trophy.

In 1874/5 it proved impossible to obtain Football Association fixtures which was the original reason for setting the club up in September 1874 and so a rugby match was arranged with Glamorgan Rugby Football Club which was one of the Cardiff clubs.
Newport were two men short for the whole match and included a Swansea man named Meager.

I'm a life member of Newport Rugby Club, and I'm involved with the restoration of the war memorial gates at Rodney Parade.
The Memorial Gates were erected in 1923 to commemorate the 86 members of Newport Athletic Club who gave their lives in World War I. The memorial consists of a pair of wrought iron gates hung from two masonry piers.
The Friends of Newport Rugby, a registered supporters trust are coordinating the rennovation project, and it is being partially funded by the Friends of Newport, Newport Rugby Official Supporters Club, and Newport Rugby Football Club.

Welsh rugby club Newport Gwent Dragons has defended the appointment of Chris Anderson as head coach, despite the fact the former Australian rugby league mentor has never coached a team in the 15-a-side game.
Anderson, who signed a two-year deal with the club, will head up the coaching team with former Wales assistant coach Leigh Jones as his deputy, replacing Mike Ruddock who was appointed Wales coach in May.
