RFC 977: Network News Transfer Protocol
There is a central repository of the news articles in one place (customarily a spool directory of some sort), and a set of programs that allow a subscriber to select those items he wishes to read.
Therefore, the client must examine the first character of each line received, and for those beginning with a period, determine either that this is the end of the text or whether to collapse the doubled period to a single one.
Since most installations will want the client news program to allow the user to prepare his message using some sort of text editor, and transmit it to the server for posting only after it is composed, the client program should take note of the herald message that greeted it when the connection was first established.

The Library and Information Service's major client survey was conducted in Semester 1 this year, from 3rd - 16th May. It was a fully online survey using the questionnaire and methodology developed by the Rodski group for the Council of Australian University Librarians.

In CASS, clients expressed reasonable satisfaction with the seven LIS services and facilities covered (with means of 3.0 - 4.0 on a 5-point scale) while in the Rodski survey LIS Performance on most factors recorded a mean Performance Rating of 5.0 - 6.0 on a 7-point scale.
