SPLICEDwire | "NewsRadio" DVD review (1995-1999) Dave Foley, Maura Tierney, Phil Hartman
One of the most consistently sharp, cleverly written, perfectly cast and creatively focused sitcoms in TV history, "NewsRadio" featured an unbeatable ensemble that worked in any combination and a tangy wit that was never dulled by "very special" episodes or the conceit of social conscience.
The screwball melody of "NewsRadio's" workplace discord has an updated 1930s-'40s flavor that keeps the laughs crisp, even after multiple viewings and even though some current-events gags (made necessary by the setting) do date the comedy here and there.
And the entire cast of characters is well-developed, three-dimensional and in sync from the pilot on forward, with the actors playing off each other so perfectly it seems unfair to name any one or two of them as examples.

KYW Newsradio 1060 has been serving listeners in the Philadelphia region with "All News, All the Time" since September 21, 1965, when a staff of newly assembled news anchors, reporters and editors launched the format that has since become a radio powerhouse in Philadelphia.
KYW Newsradio was one of the pioneers in the format: the second all-news station in the country, following the lead of its Group W sister station WINS Radio in New York by six months.
Today, KYW Newsradio, a CBS Radio station, is the market leader -- with more listeners than any other radio station in the Philadelphia region -- and an integral part of the community and daily life in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware.

With its shaky five-season tenure (1995-99) including a dozen different time slots and only one major Emmy nomination, the outstanding NewsRadio is the atypical sitcom of its age.
While most of the '90s sitcoms were based around a single big name talent (Jerry Seinfeld, Candice Bergen, Drew Carrey), NewsRadio came from the same stock from earlier shows Taxi and Cheers: a relatively unknown cast that rarely ventured away from the place of business.
Diverse, intelligent, and timeless, Newsradio is the epitomy of a what a well-made television program is all about.

NewsRadio (1995-1999) was a sitcom set in the studios of WNYX, the second-best news channel in New York City.

Between the excellent ensamble cast and brilliant writing, NewsRadio remains one of the last hurrahs of the old multi-camera, studio audience sitcom genre.
