 Measurement
In 1799 the meter was originally defined as one ten millionth of the quadrant of the earth.
The meter (m) is the length of the path travelled by light in vacuum during a time interval of 1/299,792,458 of a second.
Similiarly, the unit of pressue called a 'pascal' is a newton per square meter, and is equal to a centinewton per square decimeter, and is equal to 100 micronewtons per square centimeter, and is equal to a micronewton per square millimeter.

 sociology - Joule
The joule (symbol J, also called newton meter, watt second, or coulomb volt) is the SI unit of energy and work.
One joule is the work required to exert a force of one newton for a distance of one metre, so the same quantity may be referred to as a newton metre or newton-metre (also with meter spelling), symbol N·m or N m.
However, to avoid confusion the newton metre is usually used as a measure of torque, not energy.

In SI, the unit of torque, the torque exerted by a force of 1 newton acting at a perpendicular distance of 1 meter from the specified axis of rotation.
Note that although a joule is a newton meter, a newton meter is not a joule.
The force in the definition of a joule acts in the direction along which the meter is measured, not at right angles to it.

Newton metre - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Newton metre is the unit of moment in the SI system.
It is a compound unit of torque corresponding to the torque from a force of one newton applied over a distance arm of one metre.
While a newton metre is dimensionally equivalent to a joule, the SI unit of energy and work, in a newton metre, the force and the distance arm are normal to each other, while in the joule, force and distance are co-linear.

In 1983 the meter was redefined so that the speed of light was exactly 299729458 meters/second.
Therefore the meter (m) is the length of the path travelled by light in vacuum during a time interval of 1/299,792,458 of a second.
The pascal [Pa] is the unit of pressure and is a newton per square meter.
