  Newtonmore - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Newtonmore (Baile Ur an t-Slèibh in Gaelic) is a village in the Highlands of Scotland with a population of about 1000.

Walking - Newtonmore calls itself the "Walking Centre of Scotland", referring both to its geographical location and to the great walking opportunities locally, like the Wildcat Trail.

A new bridge had been built over the River Spey just south of Newtonmore in 1808, and the main Inverness to Perth road was also then routed through the village rather than via the ford and ferry between Kingussie and Ruthven Barracks.
Newtonmore also took advantage of the arrival of the Inverness and Perth Junction Railway (which later became part of the Highland Railway) in 1863.
East of Newtonmore, the road towards nearby Kingussie leads past the Newtonmore branch of the Highland Folk Museum (the other part is in Kingussie).

After graduating from Jordanhill College of Education, Glasgow, she taught in Inverness-shire, including Newtonmore Primary school, before going to Ontario, Canada where she became a pioneer in the field of teaching children with specific learning difficulties/ dyslexia and returning to the UK to continue her studies in Glasgow University.
Olive's three sons, who live in Newtonmore and Kingussie, are delighted that she is returning from her present home in Lhanbryde, near Elgin to Newtonmore as the Curator of the Clan Museum.
