Newtown is an ancient town on the north west coast of the Island, it is now a shadow of its former self being a hamlet with virtually no facilities.
By the early fourteenth century, Newtown was a thriving community; some sixty families lived there, and in 1344 the borough was assessed at twice the value of Newport.
Newtown is said to have been sacked by the Danes in 1001, and certainly it suffered a number of attacks by the French at later dates, the most disastrous being in 1377 when much of the town was burnt.

This 2,100 square foot parcel was donated to the Newtown Historic Association from the late Grace R. "Missy" Boone in 1972 for the enjoyment of the community.
In April of 1867, a number of prominent residents of Newtown and Wrightstown Townships applied to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for, and were granted, a charter to establish a turnpike road from the Anchor Tavern in Wrightstown to Newtown.
Newtown was the county seat of Bucks County from 1726 to 1813 before it was moved to Doylestown.

Last April, Jiggy Kothari, the owner of Photoland in Newtown's Sand Hill Plaza, began sending letters to his landlord in anticipation of renewing his lease at the South Main Street shopping center.
He followed up with phone calls during the following weeks and dispatched another letter in July, knowing his lease was due to expire on September 30.

In the mid 1800s, the building became the exclusive home of the Newtown Congregational Church and remained so until 1988, when the Meeting House was sold to the Town of Newtown, with the agreement that a private trust be set up to run it.
The Heritage Preservation Trust of Newtown, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization charged with the continuing restoration and maintenance of the Meeting House.
The Newtown Meeting House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and has received an official citation for historic preservation excellence from the Connecticut General Assembly.
