The NextView program was designed to give companies the financing they need to build satellites capable of distinguishing objects as small as half a meter across.
DigitalGlobe already has begun work on its NextView satellite, dubbed WorldView, which the company said in a March 23 press release would be launched "no later than 2006." WorldView will be collecting up to 500,000 square kilometers of imagery by late 2006, "the latest date we will be operational," he said.
