  Nexus (comics) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Nexus was an American comic book series created by writer Mike Baron and penciler Steve Rude in 1981.
Nexus would often find himself in the painful position of assassinating someone who had repented their former days of infamy, and desired only to be left alone with their guilt.
Nexus has battled him several times, although as a non-human he is not subject to the Merk's bane.

Even tho Nexus has been published for that long, Baron able to strike that perfect balance--have new stories exist within the framework of the Nexus Universe by tying them to the canon of published stories, but also presenting them so the new reader can scoop up the ball and run with it.
This book was published by Dark Horse a few years ago to reintroduce the character and remains the best jump-in point.
The origin of Nexus' powers and their usage is a breathtaker of an origin.

As a kid I saw the documentary Comic Book Confidential on cable and I was completely blown away by every cartoonist who appeared in there.

 Interview with Steve Rude
Influenced by 20th Century American magazine illustrators and by such comic artists as Jack Kirby and Paul Gulacy, Rude displays such knowledge of composition that any one of his individual pages of comic art could be studied as serious art in a university setting or in the pages of artistic journals and art magazines.
The Dude first graced comics publishing in the early to mid-1980's when upstart independent comic companies were introducing revolutionary, visionary, and fresh cartoonists (Los Bros. Hernandez, Daniel Clowes, Peter Bagge, etc.) or reintroducing comics artists who'd seemingly lost their way in the mainstream (Howard Chaykin and Mike Grell) to the comic buying public.

The book is laid out sideways, offering Espinosa extra room horizontally, but he still crams a lot of story in each page rather than going for widescreen effects.
Nothing is definitive yet on my work for Speakeasy, but if and when the current core books do well enough to merit a next wave of series, my artist might be a guy who's done work for DC very recently.
The only not-so-great experience was at Steve "The Dude" Rude's booth, where he was selling the nice-looking Commissions 2005 book, said commissions I guess being a big source of revenue for him at this point, as well as a dvd of the few minutes of old Nexus animation he had done.

The period covering Gilbert Shelton's experiments at the University of Texas in Austin are particularly revealing, showing the nexus of avoiding the draft, the burgeoning alternative counter-culture, and how college newspapers created a fertile breeding ground for a new type of cartooning.

Baron and Rude's NEXUS is one of the great adventure comics of the last 20 years, and it deserves to be back as much as anything.
