Tauranga Campaign. Who is Tauranga Campaign? What is Tauranga Campaign? Where is Tauranga Campaign? Definition of ...
However the local Maori, Ngai te Rangi, could not afford to assume that this would always be the case.
The success at Te Ranga was hailed as a great British victory, one that wiped out the shame of the defeat at Gate Pa. It certainly did a great deal to restore British morale particularly for the 43rd Regiment which was involved in both engagements and had lost many men at Gate Pa.
The Battle of Te Ranga, 21 June 1864 was the last serious engagement of the Tauranga campaign.

 History of Te Roroa
Naturally, Te Roroa tribe were very angry at this insult to themselves in the person of the son of one of their chiefs, and at once steps were taken to avenge it.
As the vessel put to sea she was followed by a canoe, and Te Haupa, watching his opportunity, jumped overboard, where he was picked up by the crew of the canoe and thus escaped to obtain some utu for the unfortunates taken away by the brig.
The Roroa leaders were Te Karu, (from Puketu) Rori (the 2nd a Ngapuhi), (of North Hokianga) Taoho, (of Te Roroa in exile on the Wairoa) his younger brother Tu-whare (of Hokianga), who was a great warrior and the latter's nephew, Tiopira-Kinaki.

TE PUOHO, Ki te Rangi - 1966 Encyclopaedia of New Zealand
Te Puoho was born at Poutama, near Kawhia, the son of Parehaoko and Turangapeke.
Te Puoho's military experience and status as a priest gave him great influence with Te Rauparaha and, when the latter emigrated to Kapiti, the Ngati Tama were assigned territories in the adjacent portions of the nearby South Island.
In spite of a warning from Te Rauparaha that he must not expect the people of Murihiku to be sitting in trees with their breasts open like pigeons facing the sun, Te Puoho persisted with his plan.

Whilst it is correct that the young Buck, upon visiting relatives in Te Whiti’s base at Parihaka, crafted a paper dismantling the icon’s qudos with forthright observations of appalling sanitation and perceived immorality (Te Aute after all was run by a lay preacher) Buck had decided to pursue a BA at college.
Te Rangi Hiroa accepted the position at the Bishop Museum and commenced invaluable ethnological fieldwork around Polynesia, notably in the Cook Islands and Samoa.

MAORI WARS - THE EFFECTS OF THE WARS ON THE MAORI PEOPLE - 1966 Encyclopaedia of New Zealand
Te Whiti was a biblical prophet but, unlike his atavistic Hauhau predecessors, a pacifist.
Land transactions, particularly in the King Country, led to the same sort of social disturbances that had helped to further depopulation among the “friendly” tribes a decade earlier, although these were less severe in the King Country, because the Government prohibited private purchase of land and the sale of liquor.
The failure of the King Party and Te Whiti to save the land meant that all hope of an independent Maori existence was doomed.
