 Nguyen Khac Chinh - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Nguyen Khac Chinh (vietnamese: Nguyễn Khác Chính) was born on February 16, 1924, Quang Nam Province, Vietnam.
In 1975, he was the Judicial Advisor Saint Vincent Church Uprising, Saigon, which led to his arrest by the Vietnamese Communist and he received a life sentence.
Under political pressure by the United States Department of State and the World Pen Club, the Communist government of Vietnam released Nguyen Khac Chinh after 17 years in jail.

Nguyen Long Thanh Nam argued that, after April 1975, the Vietnamese Communist Party proclaimed that it gained success because its objectives were grounded on rightful political bases and that the nationalist political parties were doomed to failure because their objectives were based on false grounds.
Nguyen was empowered to carry out the new policies modeled on the Soviet plans of renovating economy and restructuring administration.
Nguyen now used his initials NVL on the press to propagate ideas about "openness" and "renovation." The press was encouraged to criticize errors of cadres and public agencies and flaws in government's programs of economy.

Besides the defendant’s ailing mother, Nguyen Thi Quyet, who was permitted to attend the trial but unable to do so because of her health, no other family members were allowed to witness the proceedings.
As a result, Nguyen Khac Toan’s family had to gather outside the court where they were joined by several of the country’s leading democracy activists including Pham Que Duong, Hoang Minh Chinh, and Hoang Tien.
Nguyen Khac Toan was punished for participating in the peaceful movement for democracy and social justice in Vietnam.

Thich Tri Luc, whose secular name is Pham Van Tuong, was a U.N.-recognized refugee when he was abducted by Cambodian and Vietnamese agents in Cambodia and taken to Vietnam, where he was imprisoned for nearly two years.
The Vietnamese government should immediately release the Rev. Nguyen Hong Quang, a human rights defender and activist leader of the banned Mennonite church in Vietnam, Human Rights Watch said today.
Quang was arrested on Tuesday after publicly criticizing Vietnam’s government for detaining four Vietnamese Mennonites.

My colleague, Senator Natasha Stott Despoja, wrote to the Vietnamese Ambassador to Australia, His Excellency Mr Vu Chi Cong, in April 2003 to raise these allegations of human rights abuses in Vietnam.
His excellency responded by saying that no prisoners of conscience were being held in Vietnam, and the citizens referred to in the Senator’s letter (Le Chi Quang, Nguyen Khac Toan, and Father Nguyen Van Ly), had been sentenced for violations committed under Vietnamese law.
Following my meeting with members of the Free Vietnam Alliance, I undertook to present an outline of their concerns to the Australian Senate.
