Assemblyman Nicholas Asselta, R-Cumberland/Cape May/Atlantic, sponsor of the resolution along with fellow Dist. 1 Assemblyman John Gibson, Republican, said that the road's completion is necessary to keep people going to the Jersey Shore rather than opting to travel to Delaware or Maryland.
The area around Routes 42 and 55 and I-295 has been expanded by the DOT, Asselta said, and once people from Philadelphia are out of their home environment and on Route 55, "they're home free." Asselta said that the expanded route is also necessary in case shore towns need to be evacuated.

And Asselta may want to build some flexibility into his bill, for example applying it only within a certain - and safe - distance from lakes, rivers and other waters.
