Boles studied PPE at Magdalen College, Oxford and won a Kennedy Scholarship to study for a Master's in Public Policy at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University.
Boles was the Conservative Party candidate for the Labour-held marginal seat of Hove for the May 2005 general election.
Nicholas Boles received some media attention during 2005 election by being an openly gay Conservative candidate for a winable seat.

It is interesting that Mr Boles chooses to focus his attention on health as this matter has been devolved to the Scottish Parliament and to a certain extent also to the Welsh Assembly.
No Mr Boles we do not have an NHS anymore, where life-saving drugs are available to the Scots and Welsh but not the English; where prescriptions are free in Wales but not in England; where elderly care is free in Scotland but not in England!
As for Nick Boles' appallingly sycophantic article, it made my flesh creep and most of the sentiments were so obviously lifted from the trash Central Office are currently pumping out to mark Dave's anniversary that I wonder how much of it could even be credited to him.
