The only church that possessed a claim to antiquity was that of St. Nicholas, the earliest parish records belonging to which do not date before 1681: it was a chapel of case under Walton-on-the-Hill, until 1699, when the town of Liverpool was made a distinct parish.
There was onee a statue of St. Nicholas in the church- yard; regarded as the tutelar guardian of seamen on proceeding upon their outward-bound voyages.

On the 12th of May 1649, parliament awarded the town of Liverpool the sum of £10,000 to be "extracted" from five families in the area, one of which was the Fazakerley family.
The lands of both Nicholas Fazakerley of Fazakerley Hall (killed in the war, in Liverpool, aged 41 in Oct 1643) and his father Robert Fazakerley of Spellow House, Walton (killed in the war, in Chester, 5th April 1643.) were confiscated by parliament and sold.
Robert died at Chester, abt 1643; Nicholas at Liverpool, 1644; Robert, The younger, in the Indes; and Richard in Ireland, 1642.

The parish records are dated no earlier than 1681, though it is related that in the register office at Chester there is a parish register of Liverpool for the year 1624, which states that there were 35 christenings, 4 marriages and 21 burials during that year.
In former times a statue of St Nicholas stood in the churchyard, to which the mariners were accustomed to pay their votive offerings, as to their tutelar saint, in order to obtain a prosperous voyage.
In 1774 the body of this church was rebuilt, under the direction of Joseph BROOKS, Esq, when "the old roofs, walls and gothic pillars were taken down, with the old blue ceiling, fl and white clouds, golden sun, moon and stars, painted and gilt upon the roof'.

Which reminds me that although I went to the private viewing I haven't reviewed it yet.
'A member of the Liverpool Academy of Art from 1954, and its president from 1960 to 1965, Horsfield was also a member of the Merseyside Contemporary Artists.

We do know that there were later a John Frodsham and a James Frodsham [Les Hardwick's ancestor] in the Frodsham parish, and this John seemed a good candidate to be their father, so we looked further for evidence of children of a John between 1757 and 1765, possibly in or near Liverpool or Walton.
The following three baptisms were found in the register for St. Nicholas Church, Liverpool.
Nicholas Church in Liverpool is the original parish church of the town, originally a chapel of ease to the mother church at Walton: it is located at the corner of Chapel St. by the Pier-head.
