  Photography tips for Grand Canyon
Nichols says Bright Angel Trailhead, a popular spot for visitors to the South Rim, is a good place to get images of the Canyon after a fresh snow.
Cape Royal, on the North Rim about 23 miles southeast of Grand Canyon Lodge, is "the place to be at sunset." (Arizona 67 from Jacob Lake to the North Rim is closed in winter.
Nichols recommends Toroweap Overlook, on the northwestern end of the Grand Canyon in the Arizona Strip, for sunrises, for a view straight into the Canyon and for pictures of the Colorado River's Lava Falls.

Nichols: As I say, in his 1951 and 1952 trips in cataract boats, Frank Wright and Jim wanted a film that they could use to publicize the trips and show to audiences during the winter.
Nichols: Well I'm sorry that I haven't been able to come up with enough in the short time which I had before I came along, because it seems to me I had interruptions all the time -to be able to find enough to give to Bob, to print to bring along with him.
Nichols: I've been able to follow this guide [Larry Stevens's Colorado River in Grand Canyon], and it has a map of the geological sequences, and something about the river.

But, if the reasons for challenging Runyon Canyon include its unrelenting uphill climb, and the fantastic, ever expanding view of the flatter realms of the city below, then surely another reason is the opportunity to gawk at the collection of gorgeous people making their way up and down the trail.
And Runyon Canyon, early in the morning, or during the middle portion of the day - when hikers are mostly absent - can do just that, transporting one to another time, a time even before the Gabrielano Indians explored the canyon, a time when mountain lions roamed the canyon and hawks wheeled overhead.

The Sierra Club filed a lawsuit, arguing that one of those dams, to be built at the entrance to the Grand Canyon, would mean the destruction of Glen Canyon, a jewel-like oasis, one of the most beautiful natural wonders of the desert Southwest.
Photographer and filmmaker Tad Nichols did know Glen Canyon, so well that many of the area's place names are the ones that he and his fellow explorers and friends gave them.
Nichols photographed and studied Glen Canyon in southeastern Utah from 1950 through 1963, when it was flooded to create Lake Powell, and it is difficult to study this book without its becoming a visual obituary for that extraordinarily powerful, unforgiving, and unspoiled canyon.

Santa Monica Mirror: Heal the Bay Grades Beaches For Summer 2000
Though Heal the Bay's beach report card for last summer showed that the overall quality of water at Southern California beaches was good, it also showed that water quality at Los Angeles county beaches was significantly poorer than last year.
But, on a more positive note, Heal the Bay reported that the dry-weather runoff diversions at the Bel Air Bay Club in Los Angeles, Santa Monica Pier-Kenter and Ashland Avenue in Santa Monica and Brooks Avenue in Venice appear to be working effectively, as all those areas had very good to excellent water quality.
Although the City of Los Angeles continues to monitor one section of the beach, this is inadequate coverage for a beach that has had a notorious fecal pollution problem...and is frequented by children."
