Friends of the Earth will be joining Nick Ainger (MP for Pembroke) and the RSPB to hand in nearly 100,000 signatures to the Prime Minister on Wednesday 24 April 1996 demanding an independent public inquiry into the Sea Empress disaster.
The signatures have been collected on petitions and pledges by Friends of the Earth Cymru, Friends of Cardigan Bay, Nick Ainger MP, the RSPB and the Western Telegraph, and have come from people throughout South Wales and further afield.
Friends of the Earth is calling for an independent inquiry to address the causes of the initial grounding, the conduct of the salvage operation, and the effectiveness of the pollution containment and clean-up operations.
