Nick Frost is Senior Lecturer in the School of Education, Deputy Director of the Leeds Social Sciences Institute, and Acting Deputy Director of FLAG, at the University of Leeds.
Nick was formerly a social worker and policy officer in local authority and voluntary sector settings.
Nick has researched and written widely on child welfare and professional issues – most recently as author of ‘Professionalism, partnership and joined-up thinking’ (Research in Practice, 2005), as editor of ‘Major Themes in Child Welfare’ (Routledge, 2005) and as co-editor of the ‘RHP Companion to Family Support’ (RHP, 2003).

British comedic actor Nick Frost is well known in England for playing Mike in the hit TV sitcom Spaced (1999).
Nick made his feature film debut with a small role in Underground (1998), a low budget British drama.
He landed the lead role of Nick in his second feature film, Shaun of the Dead (2004), starring his good friend Simon Pegg (with whom he'd worked in Spaced) in the title role.

It's hard to tell just how much danger Nick Frost is in during these pieces, as I'm sure he's got a competent crew and a team of medics standing by.
Frost also throws plenty of pop culture references into the mix, like mentioning Jaws during a shark sequence, and even throwing some obscure bits in there to boot.
There is an audio commentary track for each of the eight episodes, with Frost participating on all of them, and various other crew lending their voices to other select shows.

So the pacing isn't exactly pulse-pounding, but there's an affability to Frost and his willingness to insert himself into dangerous situations that makes the show an agreeable time-passer.
Shot in 2002 and released now to capitalize on Frost's newfound cult-popularity post-Shaun of the Dead, the series was Britain's Channel 5's first original comedy show and also, for a spell, its most popular program.
I enjoyed the revelation that a gator-wrangling Floridian refused to speak to Frost when the camera wasn't rolling (just like Kevin Bacon!), as well as the glee with which the boys correctly identify the out-of-control homoeroticism of a heatstroke scene in episode 4.

He plays the part of a manchild half slacker to perfection and the half-considered, stop-gap thinking of his character make the perfect tree to hang the progression of the plotline on.
Also doing meritorious service is Nick Frost as his best friend and layabout Ed, who came over to play videogames three years earlier and just never got around to leaving.
The film does tend to hang up at times, becoming especially weak in the middle, but the delay is not especially painful and worth the madness that creates the foundation for the beginning and end.
