Soon The Wannabes are back in the crime game putting their newfound careers, fame and fortune – not to mention the joy of thousands of little fans – all on the line.
The energetic, affable and multi-talented NICK GIANOPOULOS (hey- he was our guest on the show-suck suck) writes, stars and directs this silly satire and screwball comedy about a quintet of low rent crims who pose as a flowery children's group (hence the title) in order to execute an ultimately bungled heist.
Takin' the piss out of the modern trendy proliferation of insidious "children's entertainers" (with the exception of THE WIGGLES-of course-big fan!) should be a recipe for a lot of laughs but the satirical element is underdeveloped and extremely unsubtle and gives way to the univolving and generally unfunny heist shenanigins.

Surefire jokes about concrete lions, salamis, disco libidos and big cars fly furiously from the screen for at least the first third of the film (complete with Nick in drag, Marika-style, as his mum), all of which will definitely be met by howls of rapt laughter from packed audiences.
Giannopoulos serves star, co-writer and producer on The Wogboy, and as Australian audiences are no doubt aware, he is no stranger to Wog-sploitation.
No surprises that it looks like a telemovie, trades off gags and hyper-theatrical performances, Nick gets the girl (a blonde WASP-ish one at that), nor that it's wrapped up in a happy ending and in moral cotton candy.

Nick Giannopoulos stars as Danny, a failed dancer/singer since a disastrous childhood appearance on an amateur talent show where he was mauled Red Faces style by a less than gracious judge.
Thankfully Giannopoulos has decided to steer away from any wog jokes, but the Australianness of it all is very evident and occasionally a little too thick.
The one big problem The Wannabes suffers from is not really being sure who the audience is. It’s probably too silly and thin for adults, and certainly contains too much language and too many dick jokes to be aimed at kids (although there is a Kid’s Version of the film selectable from the main menu).
