Prior to co-founding Deep Purple in 1968, Simper played for a number of bands, including Lord Sutch's Savages, where he met Ritchie Blackmore, and The Flower Pot Men, where he played with Jon Lord.
Simper was fired from Deep Purple in 1969.
After his departure, he worked with Marsha Hunt, played on a Lord Sutch live album, and was a member of the following bands: Warhorse, Nick Simper's Dynamite, Flying Fox, Nick Simper's Fandango, Quatermass II, and The Good Old Boys.

Not only is Nick Simper alive and well, but his rumoured new project with the working title "Quatermass II" sounds pretty damn stunning.
Comprising Nick on bass, Mick Underwood on drums, Bernie Tormé on guitar and Pete Taylor of the "Pirates" and "Cactus" on, I think, vocals.
Simper and Underwood met at the RPM Christmas party, got together with the others, "knocked about a bit", it clicked so they wrote some stuff, recorded half a dozen songs at Tormes studio and they're now looking for a record deal.

In 1994 Underwood got talking to Nick Simper at an RPM Records bash, and arranged to have a jam, which lead to the formation of a new band.
Nick replaced him with Gary Davis, and at this point the band settled on the name Quatermass 2 and recorded a three track demo tape.
However, neither Nick nor Mick were 100% happy with the vocal sound on the demos, leading Peter Taylor to be replaced by singer Bart Foley.

Nick Simper had played alongside Carlo in 1967, with the Savages, Billie Davies, and The Flowerpot Men.
In May 1982 Little, Simper and Parks provided backing for blues pianist Rosco Gordon's gig at the 100 Club in London, which was recorded and subsequently released as 'Rosco Rocks Again' in 1983.
The album 'Slipstreaming' was released in the UK and Germany in 1979, creating a flicker of interest despite the fact that the band lacked the finance to promote it with live gigs.

It came as no surprise, however, that their sound is similar to the group that Simper had just left, although the subject matter is much darker.
I liked the way Ashley Holt was pushed right out in front of their sound, kind of sitting on the very edge of Ged Peck's crunching guitar parts, not unlike Ian Gillan was for DP, and he sounds a bit like him as well.
