Simtek (Simulation Technology) was an F1 car constructor and racing team, founded in 1989 by Max Mosley and Nick Wirth.
Simtek was the team involved in BMW's attempt to found a works team in 1990, and although this did not happen, the chassis was sold to the Andrea Moda team for the 1992 season.

Wirth's B199 was probably too ambitious in its design but was technically quite innovative and interesting.
It was also one of the first cars to move the oil reservoir from the spacer between the gearbox and engine to in front of the engine, again an idea later proven (credit to Stewert/Ford though for being the 1st here I think, ignoring March's earlier version that no one copied).
I admire Wirth's daring to be different, but it also illustrates the maxim that well developed older technology will generally in racing beat less developed newer technologies, even if those newer designs are fundamentally going in the right directions.

Wirth's Simtek team ran out of money in the middle of 1995 just over a year after its driver Roland Ratzenberger was killed in a crash during qualifying for the ill-starred '94 San Marino GP - twenty four hours before Ayrton Senna perished in the race.

British-based Wirth Research is already reworking one of the French Courage marque’s LC75s, one of two chassis that Honda’s Acura-branded teams will use when they enter the American Le Mans Series LMP2 class next year.
Wirth, who has also had involvement in Honda’s IRL program, appears certain to play a key part in the development of the Acura chassis when the marque moves up to the LMP1 class, most likely for the 2009 season.
