		After recording a rough demo and playing a few local live dates, in 1989 the group dismissed Tobbe and replaced him with singer Nicke Borg; two more demos followed, as did a national tour, and in 1991 the Backyard Babies launched their first official release, the EP Something to Swallow.
		Signing with swedish Megarock label in 1993, the following year the quartet issued their first full-length effort, Diesel & Power;, before going on hiatus to allow Dregen the chance to work with his other band, the Hellacopters.

		Whilst many people will have heard of the band through lead guitarist Dregen's previous band, The Hellacopters, it turns out that he formed the Backyard Babies prior to playing in The Hellacopters, during which time they released their disappointing debut album.
		Some 5 years later, Dregen and lead singer Nicke Borg have reformed the Backyard Babies and released their second album, Total 13, one of the years best hard rock records that more than makes up for their embarrassing debut.
		While the band probably won't dispute such statements (indeed lead singer Nicke Borg cites Hanoi Rocks as a major influence) they are definitely not a bunch of cock rock posers.

		Perhaps surprisingly or not surprisingly, Nicke of the Hellacopters co-writes on a couple of tracks.
		For a debut album the Backyard Babies you would expect to have plenty to be proud of, this disc is one you should track down, should you be keen on glam and punk.

		Only just, though, even if the Babies' general look is pretty damn enjoyably trashy in comparison to the other band's cowboy hats and belt buckles (Nicke Borg's back cover pose and purple Naugahyde jacket is plain brilliant).
