Nicko McBrain - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Michael Henry McBrain (born June 5, 1952 in Hackney, London, England) is the drummer for heavy metal band Iron Maiden, and a songwriter.
The first (and last) song Nicko McBrain recorded using a double bass drum was "Face in the Sand," on the Dance of Death album, 2003.
Nicko claimed he had written a song for A Matter of Life and Death but because he joined the band late in the writing process (just before recording) there was no space on the album for it.

Nicko would continue to make his drumming and percussive mark on all the Maiden classics, spanning from '83 era Piece Of Mind up to 2000's present Brave New World.
Maybe most symbolic with Nicko during his very early days would be his Powerslave era stick abusing (the production being superb for it's time), the likes of Aces High, Two Minutes To Midnight and the title track demonstrating this.
The argument as to why Nicko doesn't use a double pedal is thus explained by this, although the one major criticism many have had of Maiden's rhythm section is that McBrain's pedal drumming has never being captured at it's finest on any Maiden studio record.

Iron Maiden Lyrics: Nicko McBrain Biography
More famous than any drummer has a right to be, with a style as punchy and distinctive as his battered, lived-in face, Nicko McBrain enjoys the rare distinction of being both the jester in the Iron Maiden pack and the ace.
Then he joined the Wells Street Blues Band, who were, in the lingo of the day, "a more purist blues thing".
It wasn't until 1975, when he joined Streetwalkers, the band formed by ex-Family members, vocalist Roger Chapman and guitarist Charlie Whitney, that Nicko first found any sort of fame.
