Nicky Hopkins - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Nicky Hopkins (February 24, 1944 in London – September 6, 1994) was an English musician who featured on scores of the most important British and American popular music recordings of the 1960s and 1970s, playing piano and organ.
Hopkins was added to the Rolling Stones live line-up on the 1971 Good-Bye Brittain tour, as well as the notorious 1972 North American Tour and the early 1973 Winter Tour of Australia and New-Zealand.
Hopkins died on September 6, 1994 at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville, TN of complications from a previous intestinal surgery.

Nicky Hopkins is one of the greatest musicians of 60s' rock.
Hopkins might have become a touring member of the Stones (he was asked to join in 1969), or some other great UK band; or maybe his talent would have been directed along session lines, but his legacy is outstanding for a single musician.
The fact that the seismic entrance of Nicky Hopkin’s shook up the guitar foundation, and then was followed by another seismic entrance (Dino Valenti), just means that their string of albums sound a little more varied than other group's offerings over the same period of time.

Rockument Radio - Session Heroes - Nicky Hopkins
The late Nicky Hopkins is the ultimate unsung session hero -- arguably the most important session musician in British rock.
Nicky Hopkins joined the group, which was now John Cipollina (guitar), David Freiberg (guitar and bass), and Greg Elmore (drums).
Nicky's piano adds grandeur to this Pete Townshend tune from Townshend's Lifehouse project, which was later abandoned and the tracks used for the Who's Next album.

 Nicky Hopkins
Born in London in 1944, Hopkins honed his chops with Screaming Lord Sutch and British bluesmeister Cyril Davies before producer Shel Talmy absconded with him to provide keyboards on early Kinks and Who albums.
Hopkins' biggest break was in 1967, when he worked with the Stones on Their Satanic Majesties Request; it was the start of a professional relationship with the band that would last until 1980.
Hopkins only recorded three solo albums, the second of which, The Tin Man Was a Dreamer, was a surprisingly solid, engaging record that, frankly, no one thought he was capable of recording.

Two ex-Yardbirds guitarists were forming groups, and Hopkins went with Jeff Beck, whose groups never lasted long, instead of Jimmy Page, whose group became Led Zeppelin.
His own albums were The Revolutionary Piano Of Nicky Hopkins '66, The Tin Man Was A Dreamer '73 and No More Changes '75; he worked with the Anglo-American band Night, incl.
He was tempted back on stage by Graham Parker '80 to dep for Bob Andrews in Rumour, but took it easy in that decade; he had decided to return to more formal music in the '90s, but was always in delicate health and died suddenly following surgery.

 Nicky Hopkins
lthough his attempts at a solo career went virtually ignored, Nicky Hopkins was the most in demand session keyboardist, probably in the history of Rock/Pop and RandB music (Ray Davies wrote The Kinks' Session Man in his honour).
During the 80's Hopkins continued with his session recordings, with The Climax Blues Band, Graham Parker and Meat Loaf in the early 80's to Belinda Carlise and Paul McCartney later in the decade.
Frail and often ill, Hopkins rarely toured as the decade came to a close, preferring the confines of the studio.

Nicky passed away in '94 leaving behind a legacy of musical contributions that will not be forgotten.
Hopkins and Fankhauser mention the fact that the music they made still stands up well today and they didn't have all the technologies at hand to fabricate any sounds, they had to be very good at what they did or else the music wouldn't come out sounding so good.
They do a few blues standards and all the while Hopkins is banging away on the keyboard he is howling and barking like a dog, and they are all laughing, it's just a great thing to see.
