They recorded for Penny Farthing Records and after a huge European hit in 1973 with "Dreams Are Ten A Penny" a singer called "John Knowles" was sent out to promote the record.
After a disagreement he was replaced by Paul and Nigel Griggs and Rick Williams, who were part of a band called "OCTOPUS" that had been signed to "Penny Farthing Records".
They were now sent off to promote Kincade records although neither they nor John Knowles had taken part in any of the recordings.

"Dirty Creature" written by Tim Finn, Nigel Griggs and Neil Finn.
For that matter, the entire song seems premised in an ethos of quirkiness -- from the New Wave vocals, to the dominant-at-times keyboards, and even to Crombie's drum/percussion work.
Griggs was actually an underrated writing presence within the group.

The follow up without Phil Judd lacked much of the uniqueness of Second Thoughts.
After Split Enz split up in the late 80's Noel Crombie and Nigel Griggs joined up again with Phil Judd to form the band Schnell Fenster and they released 2 albums.
The first was called "The sound of trees" and can be found quite easily but the second "OK alright uh huh oh yeah" is a much harder find.
