Nigeriaworld -- Uncivil Minister, Blundering Senate
And to show the type of a senate president he appears to be, Senator Adolphus Wabara allowed his legitimate inquiry on the fairness of the process to the accused to be drowned in the rowdy chorus of mob-like and unreflecting senators demanding the punishment of El-Rufai even without a hearing.
Reading the contributions of the senators during their deliberation of the motion, it appeared that many were reacting not necessarily to the allegation before them but to the long history of their sour relationship with the FCT minister.
The truth is, if the Nigerian senators cannot carry themselves with dignity and respect; if they cannot rise up to their duty as the brain and moderator of our democracy, every Nigerian who values the right of free speech should be at liberty to openly describe them as fools.

afrol News - Bribery allegations shake Nigerian Senate
According to the government release, Senator Chukwumerije had emphasised that he had met some Senators at Senator Nzeribe's private residence, "where they were being enticed to collect bribe to support motion on the state of emergency in Anambra state." He is now urging a Senate investigation into this bribery allegation.
Senator Chukwumerije stated that the integrity of Senator Nzeribe was at stake, pointing out that some members wanted to drag the image of the Senator to the mud.
The issuing of a statement on the bribery allegations in the Nigerian Senate by the federal government is a unique move, which further diminishes the chances of a possible imposition of a state of emergency in Anambra state.

Nigeriaworld -- The bane of Nigerian legislators
One thing the Nigerian senate's altercation with El-Rufai had revealed in our view was the fact that the legislature as currently constituted at all levels of the Nigerian democracy was not a place that boasted of people endowed with the skills that originated from the intellectual faculty.
First, it was widely reported in the Nigerian media that a male senator physically assaulted her female colleague in the lobby of the Nigerian senate chambers because of money.
If Nigerian legislators had been informed in their roles as representatives of the people, if they had been people of integrity, they would have long realized that their primary duty is not to foster a good working relationship with the executive branch but to protect the Nigerian people.

It is not a small matter that lawmakers mandated by the people to reclaim the image of their country from deep-rooted corruption and steer the fate of the country to sociopolitical and economic development went about demanding a bribe to confirm a political nominee.
Since transparency is universally known to be lacking in the Nigerian governance, a true leader in the position of the senate president should have defined a clear and convincing process of investigating such a scandal, and use it also to uncover other irregularities of the senate members.
The Senate could not even show one system or mechanism it has setup to deter the members from walking around with their palms wide open looking for who would dump bags of valueless Nigerian Naira in them.
