Night of the Ghouls - ReviewFocus
Review: "Night of the Ghouls" is Ed Wood's sequel to "Bride of the Monster" with Tor Johnson providing continuity as Lobo the lumbering mute henchman, now with a badly burned face courtesy of the immolation of Dr. Vornoff's laboratory.
All this may lead you to ask, "Yes, but where are the ghouls?", and a fair question that is. We finally get to see a woman in a gauzy dress looking for all the world like a bad Stevie Nicks impersonator, frighten two very hammy old actors with her terrifying fingernails.
Though not as great as the immortal "Plan 9", "Night of the Ghouls" has its own charms, and is worth the time of any viewer interested in the history of grade Z cinema, or for that matter, anyone who just wants a good laugh.

BMN Review: Night of the Ghouls (1988)
"Night of the Ghouls" is the story of Dr. Acula (Kenne Duncan, known for a host of roles in westerns and in sci-fi flicks), a con-artist who "resurrects" the dead in a a display of trickery involving floating musical instruments, people walking around in sheets, and talking "corpses".
One night he is investigated by the police, and during that same night Dr. Acula disovers that his seances work a little better than he had designed them to.
When Kelton disovers that his assignment leads him to the house by the lake, and then finds the area to be teeming with ghosts, he complains that he is always getting assigned to these cases and comments that the police academy never trained him for dealing with flying saucers, zombies, mad scientists, monsters, or ghosts.

Night of the Ghouls (1959) - The Bad Movie Report
For a while there, Night of the Ghouls was the Great Lost Ed Wood Movie...
Ed couldn't get up the cash to pay the lab for the developed film, so they proceeded to hold on to it for 26 years, when its bail was paid and it received a video release.
God help me for saying this, but Ed actually manages a couple of creepy moments: once when Bradford thinks he's examining a wax dummy which then smiles at him, and the moment when Acula awakes just as the dead are closing the coffin on him....

But for those willing to delve further into Wood esoterica, 1959's Night of the Ghouls should be the last stop before bothering with the smut films he wrote towards the end of his life (stuff like 1965's Orgy of the Dead and 1971's Necromania are nigh unwatchable).
The later films just don't have as many quaint charms his early fl-and-white period does, whereas Ghouls is from the "classic Wood" period and was the sequel to Monster.
It may be a little lacking in hideously garbled speeches of his best efforts (it's just not as quotable), it's reasonably short at 69 minutes, and with faux psychic Criswell narrating and appearing as the leader of the dead, it's got the camp appeal necessary for bad movie party viewing.

DVD Savant Review: Night of the Ghouls
Night of the Ghouls is a Wade Williams release that actually is a Wade Williams production.
Enduring as a bunch of uncollated stills for a couple of decades, this is a film that Ed Wood was never able to get out of the lab, and it was only completed when Williams finished it (the copyright date is 1983).
Night of the Ghouls doesn't show Ed Wood getting a handle on film direction, but to the extent that it's slightly more competent, it's less fun than his previous goofy pictures with their laugh-a-minute ineptitude.

ight of the Ghouls (aka Revenge of the Dead; 1959) is a sequel to BRIDE OF THE MONSTER (and to a lesser extent, PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE) that sat unreleased for 23 years because because the director, Edward D. Wood Jr., couldn't pay the lab bill.
