Night of the Living Dead was and still is a cult classic, "one of the most successful independently made films ever" as claimed by Danny Peary and stated as redefining the meaning of horror.
Unlike Dawn and Day, Night of the Living Dead did not have the presence of Tom Savini on set, in fact, Savini was in Vietnam at the time and was unable to work on the movie, although he really wanted to.
Night of the Living Dead is a classic and is of course, worth a million viewings and a permanent place in any true horror fan's video collection.

Night of the Living Dead helped to loosen the reigns of the "gothic era of horror" (which was sending it into a downward spiral) by modernizing the setting for fear to that of today's world.
The same can be said about the original Night of the Living Dead....it will always be one of my all-time favorite movies and I will never get tired of hearing: They're coming to get you Barbara.
The original titles for Night of the Living Dead was "Night of the Flesh Eaters", but they changed it at the threat of a producer who already made a film by that name.

I am delighted that there is finally a "collector's edition" version of Night Of The Living Dead, and I am particularly pleased that the video transfer was so affectionately supervised by people who care about the quality of the original film.
Now that this excellent copy has been made from the original 35mm negatives, I hope viewers will be able to better appreciate the intention of the high-contrast images and understand that their starkness evokes, rather than undermine, the necessary sense of "presence" which, I believe, gives the film its teeth (no pun intended).
Night Of The Living Dead was made by a small group of very dedicated individuals whose contributions can now be seen and heard more clearly than in any previously released version in any format.

It's interesting to watch what is, in many respects, the movie that basically kickstarted the entire zombie genre (or at least made it so that there was a genre, and not just the presumption of dead people waling in movies).
It's not perfect, and many of the flaws could only be ironed out in sequels and remakes, but with a forgiving eye, you can come to find a lot to like in the flick.

Director George Romero changed all of that when he released "Night of the Living Dead." Romero's zombies did more than drag their dead bodies from point A to point B. They stopped for snacks.
Surprise of all surprises, "Night of the Living Dead" isn't the grainy experience that I have come to know and love over the years.
There's more back story to explain where all of the zombies came from, plus a finale (not my cup of tea) that sets up "Dawn of the Dead." The story is still strong, with a desperate group of individuals taking refuge in a farm house when the dead become reanimated.
