		Night of the Stormrider, Iced Earth's sophomore album, is a huge forward leap in songwriting over the debut.
		Now we arrive at IE's sophomore effort, Night Of The Stormrider, a concept album about a warrior who turns toward the dark side and goes on a crusade to fight for evil and then gets sent to hell in the end.

		Night of the Stormrider is a must own for Iced Earth fans and thrashers alike.
		Night of the Stormrider is a good album from beginning to end, starting out slow and melodic, then going to a more thrash type style, then ending out with what I consider Iced Earth's second best song, not far behind my first, Dante's Inferno.
		Night of the Stormrider is one of those albums that will be the Master of Puppets or Reign in Blood of the 90's, and rightfully so.

	Iced Earth - Satan Stole My Teddybear
		Night of the Stormrider is probably their best CD (and interestingly also their fastest and thrashiest) - things start to decline after this (though Burnt Offerings is almost as good) and are really hopeless from the Dark Saga onwards.
		Following thrash-cum-power-cum-heavy metal thrasher Night of the Stormrider and the similar sounding Iced Earth comes an album that sounds like neither of the two.
		Unlike Night of the Stormrider, which has a good concept, but also a vocalist who doesn't execute well, this trilogy totally captivates the listener and sucks him in.

		At a time when alternative rock was wiping the rock and roll slate clean and putting hundreds of heavy metal bands out of business, seemingly overnight, the band's uncompromising blend of classic metaland thrash (think Iron Maiden meets Slayer) was about as unfashionable as it got.

		The opening part contained the songs from the first three Iced Earth albums: "Iced Earth," "Night Of The Stormrider," and "Burnt Offerings." The setting for this part of the show included a pretty big blueish Iced Earth logo above the stage and metal panels at the sides.
		There were 5 songs from the latter in the set; but only one from "Burnt Offerings" - brutal "Brainwashed." I didn't expect the band would play "Dante's Inferno," but I hoped at least for one more song from this release.
		However, I of course enjoyed the show a lot, and had a nice feeling of certainty all through the concert because I knew that all good that was already gone that night, would come back the next evening in Tilburg.

		Iced Earth's second effort is a concept album with a mystical, horrific story line.
		The music meshes perfectly with the story, magnifying the hatred, manic joy, confusion, and sadness present in the lyrics.
		After listening to this musical masterpiece, one cannot help but to feel some of the sadness and guilt that the Stormrider was unable to feel for himself.

		As a die hard fan I know about the band's longtime fascination with horror (back in the eighties, they filled their live shows with horror stuff), so it's pretty cool they finally made a record out of that.
		The bass playing is the best ever, but that's not surprising when you see my favorite bass player Steve DiGiorgio played in all the bass parts (he got fired the last moment and that's why he's noted as a guest musician).
		Matt wrote the lyrics to this one and Jon (of course) the lyrics which remind of the 'Night Of The Stormrider'-album a bit.

		And they are continuing just as furious, with "Stormrider", sung by Jon Schaffer himself, straighter than the opener, starting out acoustic and very calm, then turning into a mid-paced, straight track, just like the opener still a must at each gig.
		After the calm and short interlude "Before The Vision" John Greely clearly shows on "Mystical End" how far superior he is to Gene Adam, then the great guitars, very good song!
		All in all another great album of the Americans, which should not disappoint any fan of heavy Power Metal.
