Nightfall (Asimov) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Nightfall (1990), a novel which Robert Silverberg produced by expanding and updating Asimov's original story.
"Nightfall" is an influential science fiction short story (later adapted into a novel) by author Isaac Asimov, about the coming of darkness to the people of a planet ordinarily illuminated at all times on all sides.
The "nightfall" of the title occurs only once every 2,049 years when the sole sun on one side of the planet is eclipsed for half a day by a planetary body whose existence can only be inferred by the relatively new understanding of gravity and orbital mechanics.

 Nightfall
Nightfall can manipulate strong tentacles of solid darkness (as strong as the strongest man and as tough as steel, but somewhat elastic like rubber) and even separate them to entangle a foe (although they dissolve over time when separated).
Nightfall is himself a portal into the plane of darkness so entering can be done anywhere, to exit there must be some shadow (to exit as a man it must be as large as him, to exit as a shadow it can be pretty small).
Nightfall now saw a purpose to his powers and started going out on regular patrols (peering out of the world of shadow and moving about his neighborhood).

Nightfall breaks away from this restriction by offering a gaming experience that combines the storyline and puzzles that are traditional in adventure games and a 3D world that has only been used by action games.
Nightfall is based on an Egyptian myth that describes Ra's (the Egyptian Sun God) journey through the 12 hours of night as he travels to emerge and start another day.
Nightfall is very playable without a RAVE card, and you shouldn't dismiss it if you don't have one; but if you do, Nightfall will take great advantage of it.

 Nightfall Eclipsing Binary Star Program
Nightfall is an astronomy application for fun, education, and science.
Nightfall is based on a physical model that takes into account the nonspherical shape of stars in close binary systems, as well as mutual irradiance of both stars, and a number of additional physical effects.
Nightfall can handle a large range of binary star configurations, including overcontact (common envelope) systems, eccentric (non-circular) orbits, surface spots and asynchroneous rotation (stars rotating slower or faster than the orbital period), and the possible existence of a third star in the system ('third light').

Nightfall is an influential science fiction short story by author Isaac Asimov.
The "nightfall" of the title occurs only once every two thousand forty-nine years when the sole sun remaining above the horizon is occulted by a planetary body not directly observable to the planet's inhabitants.
One notable change between "Nightfall" the short story and Nightfall the novel is that in the short story Asimov used the simplest, least complex and misleading names for objects in the story to avoid confusing the reader with irrelevant information.

Four Fat Chicks -- Nightfall Review
The closest thing I can liken Nightfall to would be the wonderful and popular Mac shareware game Giza, which I admit to putting in more than a few hours on.
Nightfall was designed using a first-person engine, and it was designed from scratch, involving writing two million lines of code, which should get a gold star even though we don't give scores for programming!
Overall, Nightfall only misses the gold star for what I felt was a redundancy on the design of the levels and some puzzles.

So along comes Nightfall from Altor Systems, Inc. I read the releases of how the MacWorld Expo attendees clamoured that this game is going to revolutionize the gaming industry, that it's a major strike for "Mac only/first" titles, that it's what Mac gamers have been waiting for.
Fact is, if you've got a Rage card and enjoy exploration and puzzle solving for their own sake, then Nightfall should easily entertain...if you can get around the awkward controls.
Nightfall also comes with a lot of tools for programers to work with the game's engine, if you're into that kind of thing.

Nightfall Suppose for a moment that you live in a world orbited by six suns, at least one of which is always shining, except for one night of total eclipse every two millennia.
This means that it is constantly bright there, as there are always at least two suns in the sky overhead.
Therefore, Nightfall is a short story written by Isaac Asimov in 1938 and its key elements of what makes it a short story are its characters and dialogue.

For all its fantastic elements and unique storyline, "Nightfall" is a study of the modern human condition, with insights very much meant for the Earthborn reader.
"Nightfall" is about the fragility of the human mind, its stubborness toward accepting change, and its inability to overcome monumental change in the face of a sudden epoch thrust upon mankind's collective psyche.
Although the third act of the novel is not as tightly written, "Nightfall" remains an engrossing work of science fiction by one of the great masters of the genre, Isaac Asimov, in turn ably assisted by notable contemporary Robert Silverberg.

Every once in awhile it does my heart good to read a book that harkens back to the olden days of science fiction and still manages to take me away on an adventure through time and space that happens so rarely with today's fiction.
Since it is the very first story in the collection, I was hoping that I wasn't in for a bunch of mediocre stuff in the 300 or so pages to follow.
