Of this time Howard Siegel recently wrote, "Marvel was reluctant to give Don any work because Stan Lee had a policy of wanting the hired help to live locally, where and when he could control their output.
Marvel was guaranteeing Don a higher page rate for his pencils, as at that time, Marvel often paid "premium" artists a higher rate to get them to work there, and considered Don in that class.
He was promised more Avengers scripts from Marvel, but Marvel did not schedule work in the same fashion that DC did (they were much less organized, for one), and it resulted in a delay of incoming work for Don, something that he had never faced before at DC.

Least favorite storyline: An atrocious Marvel Comics Presents tale in which the mad Presence decides he isn't satisfied with one brilliant Russian superwoman in his thrall and sends Tania to recruit Russian super-gals Black Widow and Darkstar for his proposed harem--which is even more slimy than you think, seeing as how Darkstar is his daughter.
Not quite the return to greatness I'd been hoping for since Avengers writer Kurt Busiek had previously done a bang-up job of restoring other long-ruined heroines such as Hellcat and Jocasta, but at least this story arc cast Tania in a somewhat better light than most of her "Starlight" appearances...

ASTONISHING is one of only four Marvel books on this month's chart to show a gain over the last six months (even if it's a tiny one), and it's the only one to have done so without a relaunch or a change of creative team during that period.
Marvel would have pulled the plug on most titles by now, so unless ARAÑA is doing good business somewhere outside the direct market, their continued support for the title is baffling.
True, Marvel most months has bigger sales, and sells a lot more in the top 20, but it won't continue to be that way if this trend continues.

After aiding the Avengers against the Molecule Man, declining an offer of Avengers membership, attending the funeral of seemingly deceased Defenders teammates Nighthawk and Valkyrie, and participating in another Avengers-Defenders clash orchestrated by alien menaces Nebulon and Supernalia, the Surfer finally pierced Galactus' barrier with the aid of Reed Richards and escaped Earth.
They ultimately parted as friends after many adventures together, one of which pitted them against Galactus' new herald Red Shift and led to the temporary destruction of Galactus himself.
Their fellow Defenders - Hellcat, Nighthawk, Valkyrie, and Clea - teamed with other heroes-including Ardina, a cosmic-powered woman whom they mystically created from a portion of the Surfer's own energy-to oppose the Order and return them to their senses, just in time to prevent the curse from rendering a resurrected Yandroth all-powerful.
