The University has five campuses in (additional info and facts about Hongo) Hongo, Komaba, (additional info and facts about Kashiwa) Kashiwa, Shirokane and (additional info and facts about Nakano) Nakano and 10 faculties with a total of around 30,000 students, some 2,100 of them foreign (a high number by Japanese standards).
The symbol of the university is the (Deciduous dioecious Chinese tree having fan-shaped leaves and fleshy yellow seeds; exists almost exclusively in cultivation especially as an ornamental street tree) ginkgo leaf, from the abundant trees throughout the area.
The university was founded by the (additional info and facts about Meiji) Meiji government in 1877 under its current name by amalgamating older government schools for medicine and Western learning.

He is studying self-configuration for IPv6 Manets and is taking part to the implementation and deployment of the Niigata mobile ad hoc testbed, the largest in Japan with more than 100 nodes.
With the collaboration and support of such as (among others) Hitachi, Samsung, Boeing, NRL, BAE Systems and Thales on the industry side, and UCLA, Keio University, Niigata University, LRI, CRC on the academic side, an interoperability testing session was organized where about 15 independent OLSR implementations where successfully tested as interoperating.
Successful interoperability testing of independent implementations of a protocol is a valuable way of measuring a protocols maturity – and is a cornerstone within the IETF framework for progress towards standardization and wide industry acceptance.

Niigata students explored the Gait and Balance Lab with Dr. Burke-Doe and Professor Tyner, attended PT department courses with Dr. Martin and Professor Lentell and toured the athletic training facilities with Dr. Sailor.
A few of the Niigata students expressed interest in returning to Fresno State for graduate study in the Physical Therapy Department.

 Welcome to the USC School of Dentistry Website
A group of dentists from Niigata University of Japan visited the School of Dentistry the week of December 3-7.
The Japanese faculty were impressed with the School of Dentistry and enjoyed the time they spent with their American counterparts, however they couldn’t resist pointing out some of the differences between Niigata University and USCSD.
While it remains to be seen whether or not Niigata University will implement any aspects of the PBL pedagogy, PBL faculty were happy to have an opportunity to share their experience.

While the University's facilities are sufficient to support most needs, there is a bus service to a larger local town that has more opportunities for shopping and eating.
They organized visits for us to a local school, to the local onsen (hot spring, a specialty of the Niigata area along with rice and sake), to a restaurant for a serving of quintessentially Japanese cuisine, and also to a religious ceremony at the local shrine.

The Kyodo news agency reported Monday that archeologists from Japan and Mongolia said they have found a mausoleum believed to have been built between the 13th and the 15th centuries in the Avraga site in central Mongolia.
Noriyuki Shiraishi, of Niigata University, said the researchers believe the burial site of Genghis Khan is located within a radius of 7 miles from the mausoleum -- a similar distance between a mausoleum and a tomb found in other dynasties in the area.
In 2001, the scientists began digging at the Avraga site in the village of Delgerhaan in Hentiy Province and the excavation is expected to be carried on through 2007.

It was the world's first successful in vitro fertilization using sperm taken from HIV-positive men in a newly developed method, said Koichi Takakuwa, an assistant professor of gynecology at Niigata University.
Takakuwa said the problem with the earlier methods was doctors were performing artificial insemination even though they were not sure the sperm was completely free from the virus.
