Nikola Vitov Gučetić (Italian: Nicolò Vito di Gozze) was a statesman, philosopher, writer and author of one of the first scientific dissertations regarding the speleology.
He was born in Dubrovnik in 1549 where, (including Italy), he received most of his education.
Nikola Vitov-Gucetic is just one member of well known family as is well known writer Ivan Gucetic, (1451 - 1502).

Croatian cavers celebrate two important anniversaries connected with Nikola Vitov Gucetic, a statesman, philosopher, writer and author of the first speleological scientific dissertation in Croatia: the 450th anniversary of his birth and 415th anniversary of publishing his book Sopra le Metheore d' Aristotile, in which the above mentioned dissertation was published.
Gucetic was the central person of a cultural life in Dubrovnik and owned probably the biggest private library in town.
In the case of a windless Sipun cave Gucetic stated that this phenomenon is not universal for all caves.

Conterraneo del Nale, Marinus Ghetaldus-Ghetaldi (1568-1626), autore di importanti opere scientifiche pubblicate quasi tutte a Roma e qualcuna a Venezia, uno dei più grandi matematici europei, amico e corrispondente di Galilei, conosciuto come Ghetaldi e soltanto come Ghetaldi in tutto il mondo, diventa croato col nome di Marin Getaldic.
Il suo amico e coetaneo Niccolò Gozze, pure lui raguseo, filosofo, della nobile casata dei Gozzi, autore del Dialogo della bellezza e del Dialogo d'amore, viene croatizzato e presentato come Nikola Vitov Gucetic.
