Nikolai Nikolayevich Rukavishnikov (Russian: Николай Николаевич Рукавишников; September 18, 1932, Tomsk October 19, 2002) was a Soviet cosmonaut who flew three space missions of the Soyuz programme: Soyuz 10, Soyuz 16, and Soyuz 33.
Two of these missions, Soyuz 10 and Soyuz 33 were intended to dock with Salyut space stations, but failed to do so.
Rukavishnikov studied at the Moscow Engineering and Physics Institute and after graduation worked for Sergey Korolev's design bureau.

MOSCOW (AP) - Cosmonaut Nikolai Rukavishnikov, whose three trips into outer space for the Soviet Union encountered hair-raising problems twice, died Saturday of an apparent heart attack, Russian media reported.
Rukavishnikov's first space voyage was in 1971 aboard the Soyuz 10, which was to have delivered the first humans to the orbiting Salyut-1 space station.
Rukavishnikov was able to fire up a backup engine, which also didn't work properly but was sufficient to return him and Bulgarian comrade Georgi Ivanov safely.

Nikolay Nikolayevich Rukavishnikov was born in Tomsk, Siberia, on September 18, 1932.
When a second crew succeeded in boarding the station in June, Rukavishnikov was named to the third crew for a flight in August but that mission was cancelled following the death of the second crew on their return to Earth.
Following further Salyut failures in 1972 and 1973, Rukavishnikov was named to a crew which performed a shake-down test of the ASTP modifications, in December 1974, on a non-docking 6-day orbital mission.
