Pechalov clinched gold with lifts of 150kgs in the snatch and 175kg in the clean and jerk for a combined total of 325kgs.
Croatia's Nikolay Pechalov won a cherished Olympic gold medal on Sunday but his triumph was overshadowed by the failure of "Lifter of the Century" Naim Suleymanoglu of Turkey to clinch victory for a record fourth time.
Pechalov, who was born in Bulgaria like Suleymanoglu and shared a coach with him in their younger days, carried over the form which won him the European Championships last year to take gold in the 62kg class with a total of 325kg (150kg and 175kg).
