Nikolay Timofeyevich Tanayev (in Russian: Николай Тимофеевич Танаев), born November 5, 1945, was the Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan from 2002 to 2005, serving under President Askar Akayev.
Tanayev was born in Mihailovka village in Penzenskaya oblast.
On March 24, 2005, Tanayev resigned as Prime Minister in the midst of a violent takeover of the capital, Bishkek, by anti-government protesters.

The former Kyrgyz prime minister was charged with issuing a government decree to divert $1 million to the bank account of a construction firm owned by his son.

The issue is complicated by the fact that Tanayev, an ethnic Russian, fled to Russia following the uprising, where he was apparently appointed an aide to the governor of the Penza region, in charge of foreign and economic activity.
Another top official in Penza said Tanayev's appointment had no legal force because he is a citizen of a foreign state, adding that Tanayev did not really work as the governor's aide.
