Apropos the Nilgiri Mountain Railway (NMR) which is proposed to be declared as a heritage railway, I can suggest some ways to improve its performance economically.
Currently, the Railways are incurring an annual loss of Rs 24 crore on the Nilgiri mountain railway.
Railway sources here said that the Nilgiri mountain railway laid in 1899 is the steepest Rack and Pinion systems of operation in the world today.
