Nimcha (WPN1057) - National Maritime Museum
The hilt of the nimcha consists of a brass knuckle-guard, which is formed by a long, curved, down turned quillon.
The nimcha has a brass langet and an embryo pas d'ane ring.
The grip consists of a fluted dark brown material, which is covered with chased silver-plating originally having two rubies or other jewels mounted near the pommel.

Nimcha - Encyclopedia Glossary Meaning Explanation Nimcha   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-16)
A Nimcha is a single-handed sword from northwestern Africa, esp. Morocco.
Many nimcha have European blades from as early as the 17th century, and from as far away as Germany.
With this variety of possible blade designs nimcha are distinct with the hilts that sport forward pointing qillions, and wooden handles with squared off "hooked" pommels.

Saif - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Like the other swords of the region, saifs can have a variety of hilts and fittings; some have an end "cap" (really just the bend in the handle creating the "pistol grip") which are more acutely angled back than those of Persia and Eurasia.
Some even sport the squared off wooden handle style of the north African nimcha.
The crossgaurd is usually two small straight quillions in the style of a shamshir, though some later examples may have a thin kuckle gaurd running down to the pommel.

Nimcha for discussion - vikingsword.com forums
This particular type of nimcha is typical of those made in Zanzibar, the straight blade is not particularly common though it is certainly found in such mounts and does appear to be a European import.
With Nimcha origins tracing back to Italian 15th century, perhaps it was the Nimcha that first brought back the blades with the Italian semi circle, dot pattern.
I'd speculate that the nimcha is a sword of coastal/seafaring peoples; the inland peoples in the areas it's attributed to have their own styles.

The cross guard will often have a knuckle guard which starts beneath the quillions and runs to the bottom of the pommel; on the opposite side of the hilt this path is normally continued into a 3rd quillion.

I have one that has a 'good' blade, with a sharp cutting edge and a false edge at the tip, and was assured by the seller that this was a WW1 'bring back'.

As we all know saif is the generic word for sword in Arabic much the same as shamshir which denotes both curved and staright swords in Iran (based on all historical sources).

The term nimsha supposedly suggests a much smaller sword, yet is applied to the well known 'nimcha' of Morocco, which typically has full length blade.
This one is popular in the Southern parts of Arabia as properly noted by Jim, but it is certainly NOT limited to Hadramouth only and I would not call it a Hadramouth sword.
From Zanzibar comes another style of Saif, also with a “Nimcha” style hilt, horn grip and D guard.

By and large, the list of the costumes in favor at the Oudh court reads as being not much different from that popular at Delhi in the 18th century, but the changes in the cut gave them another look.
A new introduction was ti-re kurta which was a modified version of the old nima or nimcha; but, made of fine material and with a great deal of embroidery work in white on white, it acquired a presence of its own.
Likewise, the tppi, dupalli as it was called, simply made but elegantly finished and sometimes rakishly worn, was made of very light material.

The hilt is horn I believe, and I believe you are correct it is a saif rather than a nimcha thank you for the correction. As far as the blade being European,it is very thin and bears no makers mark so I am more apt to think it is a native made blade.
Very interesting Arab saif, the hilt form on these is of a form typically regarded as having been hilted in Zanzibar (the ring loop counterguard), also lack of downward projecting quillons as seen on Moroccan 'nimchas'.
While it is difficult to determine that these were hilted exclusively in this form in Zanzibar only, that attribution seems to apply to many that turned up in Yemen.
