Amroth was in love with Nimrodel, and she is said to reciprocate Amroth's feeling, but unwilling to wed because of Amroth's origin, blaming the Elves from the West for disruption of peace of Middle-earth.
Some light on the further fate of Nimrodel is shed by one of the last writings of Tolkien, when the genealogy of Imrahil, Prince of Dol Amroth, is given, and his exchange with Legolas in Lord of the Rings is explained.
Apparently, Nimrodel with her companions came finally close to the Bay of Belfalas, and one of the elven maidens (in some versions of the legend believed to be, almost certainly erroneously, Nimrodel herself) was sheltered by a Man dwelling close to Belfalas, and wed by him.

"Of what befell Nimrodel nothing is said here, though there were many legends concerning her fate" -UT Legolas, in LotR, states that she is lost in the south...and that niether Amroth or Nimrodel returned to Lorien again.
Cerin Amroth's purpose, as stated in LotR and UT, was as Amroth's home which was chosen because of a) This is where Nimrodel liked it, and/or b) Had a commanding view of the rest of Lorien (from a high flet)...similiar to Caras Galadhon.
I think that's where I was thinking Cerin Amroth was a grave site, something about the Nimrodel story about how Amroth had died, Nimrodel got too sad and so sailed down Anduin and disappeared out of tales (though it's hinted that Prince Imrahil is perhaps a descendant of her).
